GenXGrid

Schematic design for high-rise buildings.

GenXGrid is a parametric schematic-design platform for high-rise buildings, covering structure, foundations, MEP, cost, programme and energy in one integrated model. Early-stage feasibility usually means four consultants producing four documents that do not quite agree, six weeks apart. GenXGrid takes height, floor plate, use and ground conditions, and generates one integrated model: structure, foundations, MEP, vertical transport, fire, cost, programme and energy. Each stage feeds the next, which is why the cost estimate reflects the design rather than a rate per square metre.

Who it is for

Built for a specific job

Architects at concept stage

Iterating on massing and use while seeing what it does to structure, services and budget on the same pass.

Structural and services engineers

A defensible starting point with the code basis stated, rather than a spreadsheet inherited from the last job.

Developers and cost consultants

Cost taken off actual quantities and a programme with a critical path, both derived from the design that produced them.

What it does

Capabilities

Structure and foundations

Columns, beams, walls and slabs to code, and footings, rafts or piles resolved through the soil profile you specify.

MEP and vertical transport

Loads, plant selection and routing; lift traffic analysis with zoning rather than a rule of thumb.

Fire and health systems

Sprinklers, stair pressurisation and drainage sized as part of the same model.

Cost from real quantities

The estimate is built from the quantities the design produced, so changing the design changes the number.

Programme with a critical path

Construction scheduling that reflects the structure and services actually specified.

Energy and BIM handoff

An 8,760-hour annual simulation, and IFC4 export so the work continues in your BIM environment.

How it works

End to end

Set the parameters

Height, floor plate, use and ground conditions. That is the input.

Structure resolves first

Members are sized to code, and the loads that result become the input to everything downstream.

Foundations, MEP and transport follow

Each stage consumes the previous one's output rather than starting from an assumption.

Cost and programme derive from the design

Quantities produce the estimate; the specified systems produce the critical path.

Export

IFC4 to BIM, with the basis and method stated alongside each result.

What it will not do

GenXGrid is a schematic-stage tool and says so. It does not do connection detailing, it does not replace a site investigation, and it does not run CFD. Where two accepted methods disagree it shows both with an explanation instead of silently picking one — and every result carries the basis it was computed on.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is GenXGrid?

GenXGrid generates an integrated schematic design for a high-rise building. From height, floor plate, use and ground conditions it produces structure, foundations, MEP, vertical transport, fire systems, cost, construction programme and an 8,760-hour energy model, each stage feeding the next.

Which design codes does GenXGrid follow?

ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, ASHRAE and CIBSE, with Vesic and Terzaghi methods for foundation bearing capacity. Every result states the basis it was computed on.

Does GenXGrid replace a structural engineer?

No. It is a schematic-stage tool and says so plainly. It does not perform connection detailing, it does not replace a site investigation, and it does not run CFD.

Can GenXGrid export to BIM software?

Yes, via IFC4 export, so the schematic design continues in your own BIM environment.

How is the cost estimate produced?

From the quantities the design actually generated, rather than a rate per square metre — so changing the design changes the number.
